What better way to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Ravel's death than listening to some of his greatest works! La Valse parodies the waltz, symbol of Austrian-Hungarian imperialism; Rhaposie espagnole is a portrait of Spain painted in four dances; and Boléro is 15-minutes of a simple melody that builds through orchestration, ending in a burst of fireworks. Stravinsky praised Schmitt’s Tragedy of Salome, calling it "one of the greatest masterpieces of modern music."
